The Society was formed with an intention of rehabilitation of the Mentally ill.

Manas is the brainchild of late Mr.Tamton Abdul Azeez who was committed to help persons with mental illness and their families as he was well aware of the problems. He took it as a mission and after consulting many well-known doctors in psychiatry and other areas and also other prominent personalities of Calicut, a society was registered in 1986 as Society for Mental health, Dr.K.Madhavan Kutty being the president and Mr.Azeez, the secretary.Mr.Azeez being a man of vision as well as an efficient organizer, things moved fast. Rest is history.
